TRENTO THE CAPITAL

Capital of Trentino, not far from the Dolomites and the numerous lakes that can be found near by, Trento is a city of art that has a strong Renaissance mark, which characterises it for its colours, its buildings and make it unique in the entire Alpine arc. Trento is able to surprise as it always presents itself in a new form, maintaining at the same time close links to tradition. Visitors throughout the various seasons can admire its many folded facets: its tasty products in the autumn period, kept alive by its historical re­enactments during the San Vigilio festival at the end of June or illuminated by the "warm" Christmas market lights during Advent. Trento is surrounded by the Bondone, Calisio, Marzola, Vigolana mountains and in the distance Paganella that prelude the Brenta massif. Over fifty paths clamber up the nearby dominating slopes, leaving the city and passing through the hills where the urban areas are intertwined with vineyards and vegetable patches

UNESCO’s World Heritage Committee that met in Seville on 26 June added the Dolomites to the world natural heritage property. Nine dolomite groups have been inscribed on the list of protected world heritage sites by UNESCO: Pelmo-Croda da Lago, the Marmolada, Pale di San Martino-San Lucano, the Bellunese Dolomites, the Friulane and Oltre Piave Dolomites, the Northern Dolomites, Puez-Odle, Sciliar-Catinaccio- Latemar, Bletterbach, the Brenta Dolomites. Our splendid and incomparable mountains received this recognition from the United Nations organisation of Education, Science and Culture as a serial property for their outstanding geology and landscape. Dolomites, the mountains unique for their geological conformation and for their unquestionably beautiful sceneries - a Human Heritage site. The Ladin ethnic community has managed to maintain its language as the natural wealth of the valley, scattered as it is with some of the most famous peaks of the Dolomites, such as the Roda di Vael, the Catinaccio with the Torri del Vajolet, the Sassolungo, the Sella group, the Pordoi, the Monzoni and the unquestionable queen of them all, the Marmolada.

Mild winter climate, thanks to the mitigating effect of Lake Garda, the attractive Mediterranean environment framing the lake, and the stunning beauty of the mountain backdrop are the key features of the area.To the west - between the river Chiese and Lake Garda - lies the peaceful green and blue Valle di Ledro.In winter, and especially at Christmas, the Garda Trentino district takes on a fairytale feel, with its enchanting landscape, exquisite local cuisine and magical Christmas markets. A fabulous well-being destination, where you can relax and chill out in beautiful natural surroundings that offer an array of interesting cultural and artistic activities as well, with prestigious conference venues and exciting novel events. Here fine Mediterranean cuisine blends with the local lake and mountain specialties and the excellent locally-produced extra-virgin olive oil and Trentino wines take pride of place.History too has left an admirable heritage and the area is dotted with castles and other buildings and monuments of interest. The pile-dwelling village of Molina di Ledro, on the shore of Ledro lake, has been dated back to the second millennium B.C., representing an important archaeological heritage dutifully preserved in the nearby museum, which is open between March and November
